Course details
Intermediate Chinese is a comprehensive language course tailored for learners who already have a foundational understanding of Mandarin Chinese. Perfect for those who have mastered basic vocabulary (approximately 300 commonly used words) and grammar (HSK 1-2), this course will help you elevate your skills to the next level. Whether your goal is to deepen your language proficiency for travel, business, or personal enrichment, this course provides practical tools to enhance your communication abilities.
Using Standard Course HSK 3 as a basis, the course integrates all key language skills — reading, writing, listening, and speaking — while delving into cultural and historical contexts to enrich your learning experience. You will expand your vocabulary, improve grammar accuracy, and develop confidence in expressing yourself in a variety of real-world situations. By the end of the course, you will be able to engage in more complex conversations, describe personal experiences, and navigate routine tasks with ease. Additionally, you will recognize and write over 50 Chinese characters, further building your ability to interact in written Mandarin.
The course is offered in a hybrid format. You can enjoy engaging weekly in-person sessions, coupled with the freedom to choose online learning, either partially or entirely. This approach ensures that participants have the flexibility they need to tailor their language-learning journey to their unique preferences and schedules.
In-person classes are conducted by Asialink's China Capability and Language Centre (CCLC) at University of Melbourne's Parkville campus, and are streamed for online attendees.
