Join us for the second round of a comprehensive digital eCommerce training program to accelerate your business in China. 

As the home of technology giants: Alibaba, Baidu and Tencent, China has one of the world’s fastest growing digital economies and a range of eCommerce platforms.

This program aims to promote and strengthen the understanding and engagement between Australia and China, by helping Australian small to medium-sized enterprises (SME's) that already sell in China, to further benefit from China’s digital eCommerce opportunities:

  • Deepen your understanding of China’s rapidly evolving eCommerce platforms.
  • Learn how to navigate and stand out in this fast-paced digital landscape.
  • Build practical capability and gain expert tips to position your business for long-term success.
  • Gain exclusive access in the sessions to leading digital and eCommerce experts from Alibaba, Polaris Media, The Common Good Group, RedFern Digital + more.
  • Additional exclusive sessions on Intellectual Property in China, engaging with Key Opinion Leaders, setting up on Alibaba and understanding the digital marketing technologies available in China.

On completion of the mandatory eCommerce modules of the program, SMEs will have access to business matching opportunities, and consultations with in-country experts from Austrade, and the opportunity to discuss the right shipping services for your needs with an Australia Post logistics expert.

  • Navigate China's Digital Economy

    COVID-19 has accelerated the shift to a digital marketplace, and nowhere more quickly than China.

    • Almost 800 million Chinese shoppers snapped up over $1 billion of Australian goods at the world's biggest shopping festival, Singles' Day in China.[1] 
    • 2,000+ Australian brands joined the shopping festival selling directly to Chinese consumers.[2] 
    • E-commerce volumes in China grew rapidly over 2020, with China on-track to overtake the US as the largest retail market in the world.[3]
    • The average revenue per user in the eCommerce market in China is expected to reach AUD $1,915 by 2024.[4] 

    China’s digital landscape continues to grow and develop.

  • Program Outline

    The China Digital Economy Academy program dates:

    • China eCommerce modules (mandatory)
    • 'Building China Cultural Capability' modules (optional)

    China eCommerce modules are mandatory modules. Each module will be two hours in length and the completion of all four eCommerce modules is mandatory, if you wish to explore additional support from our partners.

    The 'Building China Cultural Capability' modules are optional modules. We highly recommend these modules are completed as they focus on doing business in China from a cultural and behavioural standpoint. 

     

     

    Note: Module 6 and Module 7 comprise of 2 x 2-hour workshops

    Module 1: Understanding the Chinese digital and mobile consumers.

    Module 2: Digital and social marketing in China.

    • Unpacking the challenges presented by working /engaging virtually with Chinese stakeholders
    • Establishing credibility and building trust virtually with your Chinese counterparts
    • Addressing cross-cultural virtual collaboration with your Chinese stakeholders
    • Building the toolkit of techniques and approaches to engage virtually with Chinese stakeholders and project teams
       
    • Deep dive session: 8 October - 2pm to 3pm (AEDT): This 60-minute workshop, will guide participants through WeChat’s main functions and features in an engaging and interactive online session. This session aims to assist participants with a business background to make the most of the app to enhance their communication and ‘guanxi’ (relationship) with Chinese co-workers, clients, stakeholders, and business partners. Participants attending this session will:
      • Gain a deeper understanding of the use of WeChat
      • Become more familiar with WeChat’s interface
      • Learn how to navigate WeChat’s basic features
      • Utilise key functions to enhance engagement with WeChat users
    • Workshop Requirements: BYD (Bring Your Device): Participants are required to bring their own mobile device. Download the app required and setup your account before the workshop.

    Module 7: Negotiation in a Chinese context - 7A and 7B.

    Andy Jiang is an independent consultant and a public speaker specialising in Asia, with a focus on China. Over the past three years, Andy has provided extensive strategic consulting, industry training and project management services to Australian businesses engaged in cross-border trade and investment.

    Prior to establishing his own business, Andy was the general manager of Tourism Australia’s operation in China, responsible for growing China to become the largest and the most valuable source market for the Australian visitor economy. Prior to that, Andy ran the China advisory unit at Deloitte and helped Australian businesses to secure strategic investments.

    A Shanghai native, Andy has studied and worked in China, the United States, France, Singapore, Russia, and Australia. Andy is fluent in Mandarin, has a Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and received his MBA from INSEAD.

    Julia Gong is one of Australia's leading cross-cultural educators and advisors, with over 15 years' language and cross-cultural training experience, and is a key facilitator for Asialink Business. Julia’s research interests are in cross-cultural communication, non-verbal communication and personalised learning. She is also an experienced course developer and TV/radio program presenter.

    Julia’s negotiation skills, strong communication skills and extensive contacts both in China and Australia ensure that she can provide a current and accurate perspective on the China landscape and mindset.

    Together with Asialink, Julia has developed and delivered an extensive range of programs for individuals and companies in the professional services, banking, government, retail, and education sectors, in particular for the established Asia Education Foundation’s Bridge Program where she has led the establishment of over 100 sister school relationships. Julia also has experience in training representatives from both small and medium enterprises and large corporations and is a wonderful bridge between Australian and Chinese culture.

    Andrew Lee born in Australia and living the past 15 years in China, Andrew Lee personally embodies Australian-Chinese culture. He is an expert facilitator on cross-cultural commercial negotiations.  

    Andrew has expertise in cross-border commercial dispute resolution with Chinese counterparts. From 2016-2019, Andrew was based in Shanghai as Chief China Representative of JAMS, one of the world’s largest providers of commercial arbitration and mediation. He had regular interaction with Greater China’s top dispute resolution providers such as CIETAC, BAC, SCIA, SHIAC and HKIAC. He was responsible for dialogue with the Supreme People’s Court and major Chinese law firms. His knowledge about a spectrum of dispute resolution techniques, his insight into Chinese institutions and his understanding of the commercial legal environment of China has been invaluable to western-based clients and legal entities.  

    Andrew has delivered a wide range of capability development programs to public and private organisations throughout Australia. He has taught at the top Universities across Asia, including Peking University, Tsinghua University and Singapore Management University. Participants in Andrew’s workshops represent Forbes 100 companies across a variety of sectors including law, hi-tech hardware and software, real estate, pharmaceuticals, and agri-business. He has been invited to speak and train across Greater China, the United States, Europe, and the African continent.  

  • Fees

    ​China eCommerce modules (mandatory): The four eCommerce modules are mandatory at a total of AUD $120.

    'Building China Cultural Capability' modules (optional):

    • Understanding the Chinese mindset module: AUD $30
    • Doing business in China in a virtual environment module – 6A and 6B: AUD $60
    • Negotiation in a Chinese context – 7A and 7B: AUD $60
